Ginger is a winner all the way around, even for
Disney Goers. Considering all the health
and culinary benefits of Ginger…this is one item that is a must on your packing
list.
While at WDW, you may enjoy
new culinary dishes that your diet is not used to, long days walking and standing at the parks, dehydration, motion sickness,
stress, air borne infections such as the flu…and if your joints experience the
effects of arthritis or fatigue, walking will certainly accelerate the effects of
inflammation.
Riding into the rescue is our
hero – Ginger root.
Pack this little gem for
there are many uses of this excellent and well noted herb. Ginger is a root or underground stem
(rhizome). Known botanically as Zingiber
Officinale..Used fresh, powered, dried, as oil, juice or crystallized. This herb is used in medicinal and culinary
dishes. High percentage of benefits for
so humble a single herb.
The benefits are best noticed
with a daily use of ginger. Keep some fresh and powered at your vacation home for easy use. Used fresh,
one can peel its outer layer and slice, dice or cube it. I find the easiest way to travel with ginger is the powered small containers. Sprinkled into teas, curry
base, stir fry, and lemonade. It is an
excellent compliment to garlic, another extremely strong anti-oxidant.
Ginger is also used to
eliminate ovarian cancer cells, prevents colon inflammation, the precursor to
colon cancer. The anti-inflammatory
properties are extremely. effective and can even rival Tylenol. Thus, an excellent aid for migraine
headaches.
If you’re not used to the extreme thrill rides at Walt Disney
World and Universal, motion sickness can last for a few hours and it is not
pleasant. Add ginger powder to your
drinks and food and tea for nearly immediate results.
Ginger is traced back to
China over 2,000 years ago, prized for the same effects then as now. This herb can reside in your refrigerator
for up to three weeks and 6 months in your freezer.
You can make ginger ice cubes
for lemonade or ice tea right at your Orlando vacation home. Mix a “fingernail
size amount” per cube with filtered water and freeze. Add to fresh lemonade, green tea, ginger
tea, even chai tea. I add it to my water bottle
with a little stevia for long days at the parks. You can find Ginger in the herb and
spice section of the grocery store.
And for the athlete in us…lactic acid is a common side effect of working out. Ginger helps reduce this soreness. Use generously in tea again.
Immune Boosting-
Ginger helps promote healthy
sweat. A good sweat helps with
detoxification of our bodies, as sweat contains a potent germ fighting agent,
dermicidin, which helps fight
infections. This protein is manufactured in the
sweat glands and carried to the skins surface to protect against invading
microorganisms such as E Coli.
Ginger
also helps with respiration and blood circulation.
Ginger is so concentrated
that you do not need much to receive the benefits.
So while your enjoying your
ginger for one ailment, your helping to eliminate several other potential
problems.
- Motion Sickness
- Morning Sickness
- Digestion
- Headaches
- Sore Muscles
- Lactic Acid
- Colon Cancer
- Ovarian Cancer
- Inflammation
- Increases metabolism
I especially love the effects of inflammation reduction from the compound, gingerols. I cannot explain it from a consumer's point of view..just that with regular use in daily teas, it really helps with respiration, achey muscles and sore joints when visiting WDW.
I must sound like a wimp…but
in actuality , you are walking up to 5 miles a day at WDW. Add this to your athletic competition training.. Did you know that Competition Training is a real possibility while on
vacation? Do not change your training schedule while on vacation, as your
vacation home resort will offer excellent opportunities with fitness rooms,
large heated pools, running trails, jacuzzi and several sport courts.
Make use of all the fresh fruit in Florida,
enjoy unlimited fruit and vegetables…Why not make it a full health vacation and
add ginger to your fluids and meals…you will notice and appreciate the multitude
of benefits.
