Best Tip for Sore Muscles and Motion Sickness at WDW

Ginger packs a punch for health

Ginger is the Best Tip for Sore Muscles and Motion Sickness at WDW.

Ginger  is a winner all the way around, even for Disney Goers.  Considering all the health and culinary benefits of Ginger…this is one item that is a must on your packing list.

While at WDW, you may enjoy new culinary dishes that your diet is not used to, long days walking and standing  at the parks, dehydration, motion sickness, stress, air borne infections such as the flu…and if your joints experience the effects of arthritis or fatigue, walking will certainly accelerate the effects of inflammation.

Riding into the rescue is our hero – Ginger root.

Pack this little gem for there are many uses of this excellent and well noted herb.  Ginger is a root or underground stem (rhizome).  Known botanically as Zingiber Officinale..Used fresh, powered, dried, as oil, juice or crystallized.  This herb is used in medicinal and culinary dishes.  High percentage of benefits for so humble a single herb.

The benefits are best noticed with a daily use of ginger.  Keep some fresh and powered at your vacation home for easy use.  Used fresh, one can peel its outer layer and slice, dice or cube it.  I find the easiest way to travel with ginger is the powered small containers.  Sprinkled into teas, curry base, stir fry, and lemonade.  It is an excellent compliment to garlic, another extremely strong anti-oxidant.

Ginger is also used to eliminate ovarian cancer cells, prevents colon inflammation, the precursor to colon cancer.  The anti-inflammatory properties are extremely. effective and can even rival Tylenol.  Thus, an excellent aid for migraine headaches.

If you’re not used to the extreme thrill rides at Walt Disney World and Universal, motion sickness can last for a few hours and it is not pleasant.  Add ginger powder to your drinks and food and tea for nearly immediate results.

Ginger is traced back to China over 2,000 years ago, prized for the same effects then as now.  This herb can reside in your refrigerator for up to three weeks and 6 months in your freezer.

You can make ginger ice cubes for lemonade or ice tea right at your Orlando vacation home.  Mix a “fingernail size amount” per cube with filtered water and freeze.  Add to fresh lemonade, green tea, ginger tea, even chai tea.  I add it to my water bottle with a little stevia for long days at the parks.  You can find Ginger in  the herb and spice section of the grocery store.

And for the athlete in us…lactic acid is a common side effect of working out.  Ginger helps reduce this soreness.  Use generously in tea again.

Immune Boosting-
Ginger helps promote healthy sweat.  A good sweat helps with detoxification of our bodies, as sweat contains a potent germ fighting agent, dermicidin, which  helps fight infections.  This protein is manufactured in the sweat glands and carried to the skins surface to protect against invading microorganisms such as E Coli.

Ginger also helps with respiration and blood circulation.
Ginger is so concentrated that you do not need much to receive the benefits.
So while your enjoying your ginger for one ailment, your helping to eliminate several other potential problems.
  • Motion Sickness
  • Morning Sickness
  • Digestion
  • Headaches
  • Sore Muscles
  • Lactic Acid
  • Colon Cancer
  • Ovarian Cancer
  • Inflammation
  • Increases metabolism

I especially love the effects of inflammation reduction from the compound, gingerols.  I cannot explain it from a consumer's point of view..just that with regular use in daily teas, it really helps with respiration, achey muscles and sore joints when visiting WDW.
I must sound like a wimp…but in actuality , you are walking up to 5 miles a day at WDW.  Add this to your athletic competition training..  Did you know that Competition Training is a real possibility while on vacation?  Do not change your training schedule while on vacation, as your vacation home resort will offer excellent opportunities with fitness rooms, large heated pools, running trails, jacuzzi and several sport courts.

Make use of all the fresh fruit in Florida, enjoy unlimited fruit and vegetables…Why not make it a full health vacation and add ginger to your fluids and meals…you will notice and appreciate the multitude of benefits.

ANIMAL KINGDOM – 10 Excellent Tips for Your Vacation Planning- Part I

ANIMAL KINGDOM –  10 Excellent Tips for Your Vacation Planning- Part I

Brief Overview – Animal Kingdom- 10 Excellent Tips for Your Vacation Planning- Part I guides us through the planning process for Animal Kingdom. This park is not a ride dominated park. AK is a relaxing and charming park with many things to look at and observe with patience.  This is like no other park at Walt Disney World.  The paths in Africa are actually casts replicated of actual mud mold.  The leaf prints and mud cracks were created by an actual large area of mud, and a cast was molded and replicated for the construction of the walk ways. Take time to notice the smaller things at this park.

1.   Lion King Showlength 30 mins.  Shows at the new Harambe Theater (in the old fort building) best to see the first show of the day.  The Lion King Show is considered and I agree, one of the best “live” entertainment shows in all the four parks. The quality of the presentation and acrobatic monkeys, birds and human vocals, floats and tumblers. are outstanding.  Make this the top of your list

2.   Expedition Everestride – length=2mins/51 seconds this is a high speed roller coaster- forward+backward motion. Insanely fast and offers one of the best and interesting queues.  I love to just go for the queue and the interesting collection of artifacts.  The goal is to catch the mystical “Yeti”. FastPass+recommended.

3.   Kilimanjaro Safari –ride Tips - Earlier is better for the rides, especially in the summer.  Ride the safari especially during the rain as the animals are very active at this time.

Ride time= 18mins/30seconds

The Flamingo Pond is in the shape of a Mickey

The ride is bumpy; those with back issues might want to pass on this ride. The vehicles are actually grounded by their huge rubber tires, so you can even ride if there’s thunder and lightning.-this might be one of the best times to see the animals, enmasse.

4.   Maharajah Jungle Trek- take a walk through Southeast Asia where you can see Tigers, deer, birds and fruit bats enjoying their meal of fruit. Observe the size of the fruit bats.  This is considered one of the most beautiful areas in any of the Disney Parks.

5.   Dinosaur- the objective of this ride is to save the Dinosaur from extinction. The ride is considered a thrill ride, and is mostly in the dark.  You ride on a bumpy track which rocks back and forth. This is not recommended for smaller children.

6.   Harambe Village- The drummers perform every hour with “Tam-Tam” drums. The younger set loves the beat and can often be seen dancing to the beat. This is a village copied from an East African Village- Lamu.

7.   Nemo- the Musical – the musical is from the animated Disney Story.  The musical is a puppetry and human feature. There are 14 songs to sing along with.  Early seating is recommended as it fills quickly.  The only seat not to sit in is the first row of the back section.  Little folks will not see the show from here.  The colorizing is wonderful and this is a lovely treat when your feet need some TLC.

8.   Kali River Rapids- Loaded with Disney art work, some of the best of Disney is located here.  The queue line has the finest displays of Disney art. Look closely at the artifacts.  Look at the waterfall at the top upon exiting as it is in the shape of a Lions Head. The ride is 3 mins/30 seconds. Guaranteed to get you wet, I recommend changing into sandals to preserve your shoes and socks.  Try to ride this raft trip in the later part of your day.  There are “free” lockers for visitors (2 hr limit).  Store your belongings and dry clothes in the lockers.

9.   Pangani Forest Exploration Trail- this is often overlooked as it can be covered with vegetation.  This is the home to the Gorillas and Hippopotamus of the parks African animals.

10. Ms.DeVine- By far this is one of the best subtle attractions in the parks. Ms. DeVine is a stilt-walker who is covered in vines and saunters along the path between Asia and Africa. She can be seen hugging trees and following guests.  The cast members will point her out if you cannot find her. She might be perfectly still next to a tree or waving to a guest.  All that is exposed is her face which is of course, painted a metallic green.
