ANIMAL KINGDOM – 10 Excellent Tips for Your Vacation Planning- Part I

ANIMAL KINGDOM –  10 Excellent Tips for Your Vacation Planning- Part I

Brief Overview – Animal Kingdom- 10 Excellent Tips for Your Vacation Planning- Part I guides us through the planning process for Animal Kingdom. This park is not a ride dominated park. AK is a relaxing and charming park with many things to look at and observe with patience.  This is like no other park at Walt Disney World.  The paths in Africa are actually casts replicated of actual mud mold.  The leaf prints and mud cracks were created by an actual large area of mud, and a cast was molded and replicated for the construction of the walk ways. Take time to notice the smaller things at this park.

1.   Lion King Showlength 30 mins.  Shows at the new Harambe Theater (in the old fort building) best to see the first show of the day.  The Lion King Show is considered and I agree, one of the best “live” entertainment shows in all the four parks. The quality of the presentation and acrobatic monkeys, birds and human vocals, floats and tumblers. are outstanding.  Make this the top of your list

2.   Expedition Everestride – length=2mins/51 seconds this is a high speed roller coaster- forward+backward motion. Insanely fast and offers one of the best and interesting queues.  I love to just go for the queue and the interesting collection of artifacts.  The goal is to catch the mystical “Yeti”. FastPass+recommended.

3.   Kilimanjaro Safari –ride Tips - Earlier is better for the rides, especially in the summer.  Ride the safari especially during the rain as the animals are very active at this time.

Ride time= 18mins/30seconds

The Flamingo Pond is in the shape of a Mickey

The ride is bumpy; those with back issues might want to pass on this ride. The vehicles are actually grounded by their huge rubber tires, so you can even ride if there’s thunder and lightning.-this might be one of the best times to see the animals, enmasse.

4.   Maharajah Jungle Trek- take a walk through Southeast Asia where you can see Tigers, deer, birds and fruit bats enjoying their meal of fruit. Observe the size of the fruit bats.  This is considered one of the most beautiful areas in any of the Disney Parks.

5.   Dinosaur- the objective of this ride is to save the Dinosaur from extinction. The ride is considered a thrill ride, and is mostly in the dark.  You ride on a bumpy track which rocks back and forth. This is not recommended for smaller children.

6.   Harambe Village- The drummers perform every hour with “Tam-Tam” drums. The younger set loves the beat and can often be seen dancing to the beat. This is a village copied from an East African Village- Lamu.

7.   Nemo- the Musical – the musical is from the animated Disney Story.  The musical is a puppetry and human feature. There are 14 songs to sing along with.  Early seating is recommended as it fills quickly.  The only seat not to sit in is the first row of the back section.  Little folks will not see the show from here.  The colorizing is wonderful and this is a lovely treat when your feet need some TLC.

8.   Kali River Rapids- Loaded with Disney art work, some of the best of Disney is located here.  The queue line has the finest displays of Disney art. Look closely at the artifacts.  Look at the waterfall at the top upon exiting as it is in the shape of a Lions Head. The ride is 3 mins/30 seconds. Guaranteed to get you wet, I recommend changing into sandals to preserve your shoes and socks.  Try to ride this raft trip in the later part of your day.  There are “free” lockers for visitors (2 hr limit).  Store your belongings and dry clothes in the lockers.

9.   Pangani Forest Exploration Trail- this is often overlooked as it can be covered with vegetation.  This is the home to the Gorillas and Hippopotamus of the parks African animals.

10. Ms.DeVine- By far this is one of the best subtle attractions in the parks. Ms. DeVine is a stilt-walker who is covered in vines and saunters along the path between Asia and Africa. She can be seen hugging trees and following guests.  The cast members will point her out if you cannot find her. She might be perfectly still next to a tree or waving to a guest.  All that is exposed is her face which is of course, painted a metallic green.
