ANIMAL
KINGDOM – 16 Excellent Tips for Your
Vacation Planning- Part II
Brief Overview – Animal Kingdom
is not a ride dominated park. This is a relaxing and charming park with many
things to look at and observe with patience.
This is like no other park at Walt Disney World. The paths in Africa are actually casts
replicated of actual mud mold. The leaf
prints and mud cracks were created by an actual large area of mud, and a cast
was molded and replicated for the construction of the walk ways. Take time to
notice the smaller things at this park.
1. Flights
of Wonder- This show will
delight the entire family of animal lovers. This includes comedy, impressive
birds and information for conservation and budding conservationists. There is a bird presentation about 30 minutes
prior to the show time- be amazed by birds singing and calculating math.
2. Tree of Life- Head to the “Tree of Life” 15 minutes before the Parks’ opening, within a
few minutes, the Characters will arrive and entertain you. Visit the
Discovery Island trails and travel under the roots of the tree of life- visit
the Flamingos on the Discovery Trails. This amazing tree has 320 animals hand
carved into it.
3. Character
Greeting- Remember the movie
“Up”? meet Russell and Dug (found on Discovery Island near A Bug’s
Life), as well as Baloo and King Louie
from the Jungle book (meet them at the boat dock directly across from
the Flights of Wonder show). Most definitely some of my favorite
characters from childhood. As a matter of fact, this was the first movie I saw
as a child in the theater. This was in
1967.
4. Ziwani
Traders- I love to collect
African Artifacts and this shop has amazing gifts including African wine. One of my favorite items is the animal cloth print
imported for sale here. Load up for
future projects. My downfall!
5. Make
time to Try these snacks:
At the Anandapur
Tea Company- Frozen Chai Tea- Excellent!
Found in the ice
cream carts, chocolate covered frozen bananas- Delicious!
Chai Tea is
excellent for a morning refreshment- cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla with black
tea..make this easily in your VACATION RENTAL HOME
near Disney.
6. Conservation
Station- This is a favorite of
young children and those interested in animals.
The early mornings offer viewings of operations on the animals if any
are required. There are shows during the
day with the training of the animals.
Make sure that you visit the petting area. You can help groom the
animals, no feeding allowed but brushing is allowed. Look closely as there are 27 hidden Mickeys
in the mural at the Conservation Area.
See how many you can find.
7. DinoLand
U.S.A. - Bone yard, in the play
area behind the jeep, there is a row of fossils set into the wall. Press one of
the fossils and you will hear music.
This is called a xylobone. The cast members will help with this if
needed. The highway sign in DinoLand is
Rt.498 (guess when the park opened?
(Yes, your right…April, 1998)
8. It’s
Tough to be a Bug -3D show on
the life of a bug from the perspectivwe of a bug. Can be a little scary for little ones. Before leaving, look at the ceiling to see
the bugs exit on the ceiling as the announcer escorts them out of the building
first. This is a cute touch. The human guests are called “honorary guests” and leave
the show second. We caught this show
during a thunderstorm and the loud thunder only gave the show more dramatics.
9. Rafiki’s Planet Watch – has Hidden Mickeys throughout the mural at
the main entrance. They are in the butterfly wings and eyes of the animals.
10. Tusker
House Restaurant- there are
pre-recorded sounds of a kitchen with pots and pans clinking while being
washed. This gives the effect of a real
kitchen. Having a full sized kitchen is
a wonderful benefit while on vacation at your VACATION RENTAL HOME
near Disney.
11. Primeval Swirl- look for hidden
Mickey’s in the asteroid
12. Viva
Gaia Street Band- This lively band group with a Caribbean flair
performs near the Flame Tree Barbeque.
Get ready to take dance lessons with every performance.
13. Chakranadi
– this musical duo plays in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom. Listen to the
soft sounds of the sitar, a stringed instrument, the tabla, a traditional
Indian drum. Take time to enjoy this
relaxing music.
14. Pocahontas:
This beautiful and brave heroine can be found greeting guests on one of the
Discovery Island trails. Fact:
It is in Fredericksburg, Virginia- at the Rappahannock River where Pocahontas
was captured and transported to Henrico Virginia. She was converted to Christianity and married
John Rolfe in 1614. Today, where the
Potawomeck Native American Indian’s winter camp was located is a popular
rafting, tubing and canoeing river summer activity.
